The benefits and drawbacks of the various heating gas boiler forms
There are several kinds of Central Heating Systems that can be bought in the market. Most of them consist of a set of heating heating radiators, a gas boiler and copper pipework.
Whilst we need central heating systems air conditioners are not needed in the UK and Europe because of the average temperature throughout the year. Many of us find proper heating a necessity; as a result most of the new homes being constructed today are built with a Central Heating System.
With winter coming up round the corner heating should be at the front of your mind. Only then you can relax and feel cosy inside your house. Your Central Heating System needs to be reliable. It should be durable, easy to use and completely safe.
Central Heating system can be divided into two broad categories, pumped/vented systems and sealed systems.
Pumped or vented Gas Central Heating systems are most popularly used. The pumped/vented Gas Central Heating Systems have an expansion tank and a feed. Your house gets hot water through the stored hot water tank, it also supplies heat to the central heating radiators. The expansion tank has enough space to allow for the expanding of water as a result of heating. You will most likely find the expansion tank kept in the highest part of the house. It heats the house and doubles as the water supply.
Most houses, especially the old ones will have a vented/pumped heating system.
A slightly newer central heating boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred central heating system in newer properties. No water tanks are needed with the sealed system. The attic has no tanks or piping, the system is completely enclosed and locked, it’s not ventilated, and that has its advantages:.
- The problem of freezing pipes is eliminated.
- No maintenance or repair work is required for the pipes and tank which would have been in the loft.
- Reduces the risk of leaking.
- The risk of airlocks, corroding and sludge are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.
- Can be flushed out under pressure if needed by the mains water supply.
A sealed Central Heating System is a packaged unit with all the necessary controls and safety devices. No tank feeds a sealed system, the supply comes directly from the mains. It is plumbed straight into the main water supply.
Separated from the sealed system by a diaphragm is a pressure vessel, which contains compressed gas; this vessel is responsible for managing variations of pressure in the heating system. Pressure buildup in a Sealed system can be relieved by a safety valve which drains out water; and pressure drop is compensated by automatic fresh intake of water via another valve.
As compared to other heating systems, Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. They also offer you all round control which is more than most heating systems do.
