Join the herd and get central heating protection cover
A number of protection policies are available in the market today, there is a policy for your holiday and even for your television cover!. Some are more important than others, and some are even compulsory, as is the case with car insurance. Lenders need buildings home buildings insurance from borrowers before they will lend money. Policyholders are requireded by the lender to protect themselves from losses that could ruin their lives by these types of protection cover.
If we move our attention to risks which are less important then we would meet products such as gas central heating insurance, protection products which are offered by the likes of British Gas, npower, Eon and Homeserve. These policies are not as widely used as they should be – for while they are not as necessary as insuring the very structure of a house, the central heating system of a home is most definitely a necessity and repairing it can cost a lot. The other problem is that actually getting someone to repair it can take time, and living without hot water or heating is no fun, especially in winter. More worryingly is the prospect of a faulty system leaking carbon monoxide, which can be fatal.
A wide choice of plans exist in the market for both gas boiler servicing and central heating repair. The simplest plans are those that include just the minimum requirements with yearly servicing and safety inspections. However, the likes of spare parts and repair work are not included. You just need to pay small amount per month to upgrade to a policy that covers repairs, labour and spare parts building on one of these basic plans, unless your heating boiler is under warranty and covered by the manufacturer or the installer. Particularly if a gas boiler is getting close to the end of its working life, this extra money is well spent. When upgrading to a comprehensive plan, homeowners can choose to also insure the pipework and radiators or heating controls along with the gas boiler.
One thing to watch out for when choosing a policy is any exemptions or limits written into the policy document. For example, you may be limited to a certain number of call outs every year or a cap on the cost of repairs that will be covered. As with all types of insurance, don’t just choose the cheapest premium without making sure the level of cover is adequate.
